Emotional & Physical Connection Therapy

We are wired for connection, yet many of us find ourselves feeling disconnected from our partners – emotionally and physically. You may have noticed that the honeymoon spark you once shared has dimmed, and the warmth of intimacy feels like a distant memory. Late-night talks have turned into moments of turning away, and physical affection has become rare. These feelings can be painful and isolating, leaving you both longing for the closeness you once enjoyed.

If we both want the same thing, why does it feel so hard? Communicating vulnerability can be especially challenging when it’s been a while since you last connected in this way. Attempts to communicate might not come across as intended, leading to defensiveness that further drives a wedge between you.

Emotional and physical disconnection can stem from various sources—stress, life changes, unresolved conflicts, or even the daily grind. You may feel like you’re living parallel lives, where communication becomes transactional rather than intimate. The connection that once felt effortless now requires significant effort, which can be disheartening.

If this resonates with you

know that you are not alone. Many couples face similar struggles, and the good news is that therapy can help you navigate this challenging terrain.

Intimacy thrives on vulnerability and trust, and when communication breaks down, those essential elements can diminish. It’s easy to get stuck in a cycle of frustration and misunderstanding, where both partners feel unheard and unloved. Couples therapy is a powerful tool for rebuilding the emotional and physical connection by creating a safe space to unpack and explore your feelings.

Therapy offers an opportunity to examine the underlying issues contributing to your disconnection while allowing you to understand each other’s perspectives. This process helps identify the patterns in your relationship that are causing you to drift apart, all while learning to communicate more effectively—expressing your needs, desires, and concerns without fear of judgment. As you work through these struggles, you’ll discover strengths in your relationship that you may not have recognized before.

Together, you can break down the barriers that have built up over time, creating a space for reconnection and reigniting the passion that initially brought you together.

At Existence, we believe in the power of connection. With compassion and support, you can rediscover the love that brought you together and create a lasting bond. If you’re ready to take the next step in your journey, we invite you to reach out and explore how couples therapy can help you reconnect on deeper levels.

Emotional & Physical Connection Therapy FAQ

How long will therapy last?

The frequency of your appointments will be discussed and determined during your initial therapy sessions, based on your unique needs. Typically, after six to eight sessions, you and your therapist will review your progress. Treatment goals will be assessed periodically and adjusted as necessary. It's important to remember that you have full control over the therapy process. You are always free to discontinue treatment at any time, regardless of your therapist's perspective. However, we encourage you to have a conversation with your therapist before making the decision to end therapy. Keep in mind, each therapy experience is individual, and outcomes can vary from person to person.

What will happen in the first session?

The first session, or "consultation," is all about getting to know you and understanding what you're going through. We’ll take the time to talk about your personal challenges and your situation, so we can create a treatment plan that feels right for you. You’ll be asked some questions, and we’ll explore different aspects of your concerns together. Sometimes, this may include psychological assessments or reaching out to others, like your doctor or family (but only with your permission). Once we have a clear picture, your therapist will share some treatment options with you, and together, you’ll decide on a plan that feels comfortable and helpful for you.

Are Psychological Services Covered by OHIP?

Psychotherapy services are not covered by OHIP. However, many extended health insurance plans provide partial coverage for psychotherapy services. The coverage details, including reimbursement rates, may vary depending on your insurer and plan. We recommend contacting your insurance provider directly to confirm your coverage details and claim process. Payment for services is due at the end of each session. A detailed receipt will be provided, which you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement or use for tax purposes.
